Top 5 Blogs of 2024

As 2024 draws to an end, we have put together a summary of our top 5 blog most popular blog posts of the year to help you plan for your own surgical journey with Dr Moncrieff in 2025!

Can I access my superannuation for plastic surgery?

Are you considering surgery but don’t have savings or access to medical financing? Or perhaps you’ve heard of other patients gaining access to their super to pay for surgery?

Essentially superannuation is accessible when there is a serious medical condition and the patient has no other means to fund the surgery. Patients who have made successful claims include those requiring breast reductions, tummy tucks and lifts post weight loss surgery, and removal of implants for medical need.

Our Practice Manager Jessica explains the current rules governing superannuation and plastic surgery here.

Will Medicare fund my breast reduction?

Are your large breasts causing you back and shoulder or neck pain? So now you’re Googling if there is a Medicare rebate for a breast reduction.

The answer is yes, the rebate itself is around $1,000 but importantly, you must be entitled to the Medicare item number to ensure that your private health insurance kicks in.

Can I claim a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) from Medicare?

Ready for a change? Have you been battling with excess skin and muscle separation, either as a result from children or weight loss? But is there a Medicare rebate on a tummy tuck?

This year we saw major changes to the Medicare criteria for abdominoplasty, with Medicare now assisting not only mass weight loss patients, but patients who have suffered severe abdominal muscle separation post-pregnancy too. While the Medicare rebate itself is modest, having private health insurance will reduce the overall cost from $26,200 out of pocket to $18,800 for your tummy tuck.

The emotional roller coaster: Managing pre and post-operative anxiety

While breast and body surgery focuses on physical changes, patients also experience a rollercoaster of emotions along the way. We know this after operating on thousands of women and it is completely normal to feel this way.

Even if you think these thoughts or feelings may not affect you, it is better to be prepared and aware in case they do. Dr Moncrieff and our team are here for you along this journey and are happy to help you through the ups and downs. Learn more about riding the emotional roller coaster here.

Post-surgical bloating and swelling

During the post-surgery recovery period, some of the most common questions our team receive are, “have I put on weight?” and “why do I look and feel so bloated?”

The good news is that these sensations are only temporary – but why do they occur and what can you do to help minimise the discomfort?

Find the answers in our article here.
